The enigmatic leader of the Chalice Heart, Kaillis remains shrouded in mystery. He appears to be a rather debauched and lascivious character, with a serpentine tongue, capable of luring such people as the current Vendicti, who has claimed to be a former Guardian, to his side. It is unknown whether Kaillis or his heirs currently controls the Chalice.

Appearance[]

Fur/Scale/Feather Colour: Kaillis probably had perfectly scarlet fur as the ideal of the Echidna race

Skin Colour (ie Muzzle/Arms/Beak): Dark Tan

Eye Colour: Pure white irises, which gives a sort of silvery quality to the edges of his eyes around light, and makes his larger-than-average retina come off as pure black and frightening. It also means that he likes lower light conditions.

Hair/Quill/Feather Style: Short and sprayed out like the sun, quills a little thicker than standard

Other Bodily Features: ENTER

Any Piercings/Tattoos/Scars/Birthmarks?: ENTER

Attire: He definitely seemed to wear a robe and hood, at the very least, because Vendicti's accounts jump from discussing an annoying Chalice leader to suddenly detailing out every curve of a naked cultmaster. It appears he went barefoot for most of the time.

Items/Weapons: He carries nothing more than a dagger on him.

Affiliations/Relations[]

  • Vendicti - His right hand man, he personally seduced and won over this Guardian

Rivals/Enemies[]

  • Albion Technocracy - The two organizations were once rather close, particularly in protecting and collecting members - technomages and supporters - during the purges in the regions. However, distinct differences brought about a rather bitter schism in opinion and their friendships, and the two are now at war. This is personally attributed to Kaillis, as it was his decision to betray the A-Techna, and it was believed to have occurred over being spurned as a lover.

INFO

The Chalice was composed of layers or tiers, each receiving their own specific messages outlining their place in the ranks, and in the world. The great majority of 'vessels' fell into the lowest tier, expendable, brainwashed, and easy to use as raw force. This bottom tier would be seduced in by the promises of the abandonment of law for the sake of pleasure, but once they entered the Chalice, they would be innundated with messages urging them toward conformity, self-denial, uniformity, and nothinglessness, assuring them there was no afterlife, and that nothing mattered at all.

The second tier was easy to convince that they were 'special', and cooperation would be rewarded in small physical tokens of pleasure and the promise of rich rewards for their services. An afterlife was laid out, but the general extent of it was left up to their imaginations. Higher ranks were displayed as a matter of incentive, equating obedience and once again short-term self-denial with long term benefits and richer rewards.

The third tier encouraged competition between those in the tier, and those below, suggesting rewards were limited in supply, and would go onto to those who were considered most worthy. The third tier was taught to despise those below it, assuring status within the system, and planting the impetus for continuous acts of allegiance to the Chalice in fear of dipping below their tier and into a rank they did not feel themselves deserving. Those in the third tier were promised the opportunity to rise in rank, but none ever would.

The top tier was comprised of those with specific desired abilities and natural excellence, brought in from the start to this rank without any pretenses of competition, brainwashing, or self-denial. They would be aware of their importance and the value of their abilities, would be given access to complete luxury, and could be assured the satisfaction of their every whim and desire, often at the expense of the tiers who came below. This would be the ruling class, the only ones for whom the promises of decadence and debauchery would actually be a reality.

Loyal Dog[]

The greatest barrier to the Chalice's expansion was the existence of the Templar Knights, a group dedicated to the protection of an Aurora-centric way of life. Out of the Knights, the Guardian closest to the pulse of the capital was the young and devoted Guardian Onyx, a man whose idealism and fierce sense of justice ensured his rigid defense of his nation. Kaillis's methods were subtle, spurring him to the broader philosophical questions and the ultimate implications of their role in Albion, while distracting him with displays of carnality and dazzling abandon to a glut of pleasures. It was his personal involvement that got Onyx's attention, and though it was clear that he was an important figure in the Chalice, if not the leader of it himself, he saw a hunger in Onyx's eyes to prove the superiority of his cause, and then, to learn.

He began to devote time to wooing him, instead of merely providing him with the specialized brainwashing that he was so very good at. He groomed Onyx to respond to him in particular, to continue to ask the hard questions even when he had to concede the points, and to develop his logic and his ideals beyond both societies. He understood that Onyx had the capacity for ambition, had the drive and the excellence to be set apart from the chaff and elevated into something polished and valuable, and he was surprised to find himself returning interest in what would have otherwise been a difficult sexual conquest and addition to the ranks of the complacent.

Kaillis pulled Vendicti free of the confines of Onyx's life with the gentleness and dexterity of a practiced hand, completing the butterfly-like metamorphosis from opinionated and tempestuous Guardian to smoother and darker Vessel. The hunger remained, with an edge learned from their frenetic spars and affairs, but tempered with an easy goal to fixate upon. When they made their way on the warpath, it was not as conquest and conqueror, but as deeply loyal lovers. Vendicti would be the closest thing he'd ever have to an equal, though he would never make that distinction.
